Little to nothing is known about John Smith or if this is his real name. He just appeared on behalf of Gensis to solve the problem at had, but of course mostly concentrated on primary objectives of his company - or at least tried too.
Author's note
In a way John Smith is a classical antagonist. But in the last scenes it is suggested that he had been just manipulated like Michael has been manipulated. Or can you imagine a payment high enough to ignite yourself for your employer?
